 Regarding Diabetes Mellitus:

Diabetes Mellitus is one of the fastest epidemics in human history, due to its rapid rise in prevalence worldwide.   Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) is not immune to this epidemic.

In developed countries like the USA and Canada, 50 % of people with diabetes manage to achieve targeted glycaemic control. However  much less Saudi people with diabetes can manage to achieve similar targets.  It is no surprise that this results in a high rate of diabetes complications locally.

So, our approach is to empower people with diabetes is by training and support for diabetes self-management education (DSME). DSME is defined as “collaborative process through which people with or at risk for diabetes gain the knowledge and skills needed to modify behaviour and successfully self-manage the disease and its related conditions"

 Regarding Endocrine diseases

Endocrine diseases are not common as diabetes, but increasing nowadays .According to the latest WHO data published in may 2014 Endocrine Disorders Deaths in Saudi Arabia reached 725 per year or 0.90% of total deaths. The age adjusted Death Rate is 5.10 per 100,000 of population.Thyroid dysfunction both hyper and hypothyroidism can affect circulatory system by affecting cardiac output, cardiac contractility, blood pressure, vascular resistance and rhythm disturbance which can further cause:

  • ⊳ Heart failure
  • ⊳ Atrial fibrillation
  • ⊳ Congestive heart failure
  • ⊳ Blood pressure disturbances

In a recent study, the prevalence of different types of thyroid disease varied between the reported studies in Arab world ranging from 6.18 to 47.34%.Female gender, dietary factors, iodine deficiency, family history, diabetes and x-ray radiation were reported as risk factors associated with different type of thyroid diseases.

The most prevalence of thyroid disease was concluded to be goiter & hypothyroidism and the burden of thyroid cancer is increasing rapidly in different Arab region, and further longitudinal studies are still needed to investigate the prognosis and determinants of these thyroid diseases in the Arab world.

So, our mission is an early proper screening & diagnosis of occult thyroid problems aiming at better & healthy life for all our visitors.
